"The Love Boat"

.
Thursday evening the Ship Manager, Donovan Palmer, joked about how his wife had looked forward to having a cruise on the "Love Boat" where she might lounge with her pineapple drink with its little paper umbrella by the ship pool. He joked that instead he got her a place on a working ship! This was especially amusing to us as our last ship, the Anastasis was often called "The Love Boat." This was not just because she had been a lovely cruise ship prior to belonging to Mercy Ships, but because many couples had fallen in love while working aboard her, and quite a number of those are now married. Well, that is still happening, so though the Africa Mercy is not a pretty cruise ship, but a rather squarish ferry boat, she carries on the tradition as our "Love Boat."

So in jest the head of Hospitality set up a deck lounge chair on deck 5, and she had a young man dress up in a steward's uniform with a linen towel to serve her her pineapple drink by a wee pool while the pianist played "The Love Boat" theme song from the TV series! We all sat down with our own paper umbrellas to enjoy the joke! Here is Donovan with Mae...
